Abstract
This research addresses the topic of geopolitical rivalry between Turkey and Iran in Syria by analyzing the historical backgrounds, sectarian dimensions, and strategic interests that shape the relationship between the two countries. It also examines the regional policies of both states toward conflict zones in the region, where their interests clearly intersect and diverge.
The study employs a comparative analytical approach to understand the nature of this rivalry and its various tools, which range from soft power—such as ideology and diplomacy—to hard power, including military intervention and logistical support to local actors.
In addition, the research highlights key historical milestones to better understand the historical context of this rivalry.
The study concludes that the relationship between Turkey and Iran is characterized by complexity, combining both rivalry and cooperation. This makes the future of their relationship dependent on the dynamics of regional and international transformations, as well as each side’s ability to effectively utilize its tools within a highly fluid and volatile strategic environment.

المستخلص
يُعالج هذا البحث موضوع التنافس الجيوسياسي بين تركيا وإيران في سوريا، وذلك من خلال تحليل الخلفيات التاريخية، والأبعاد المذهبية، والمصالح الاستراتيجية التي تحكم علاقات الطرفين. كما يتناول البحث السياسات الإقليمية لكلا الدولتين تجاه بؤر النزاع في المنطقة حيث تتقاطع وتتناقض مصالحهما بشكل واضح.
يعتمد البحث على المنهج التحليلي المقارن لفهم طبيعة هذا التنافس، وأدواته المتنوعة التي تتراوح بين القوة الناعمة، كالأيديولوجيا والدبلوماسية، والقوة الصلبة، كالتدخل العسكري والدعم اللوجستي لأطراف محلية.
بالإضافة لذكر بعض المحطات التاريخية لفهم الخلفية التاريخية لهذا التنافس.
ويخلص البحث إلى أن العلاقة بين تركيا وإيران تتسم بالتعقيد، حيث تجمع بين التنافس والتعاون في آنٍ واحد، ما يجعل من مستقبل هذه العلاقة رهناً بمدى تغير التحولات الإقليمية والدولية، وقدرة كل طرف على توظيف أدواته بفعالية ضمن بيئة استراتيجية شديدة السيولة والتقلب.
